About Mrs. Paula Gilleland

I was born in the midland area of the Republic of Ireland. Living in the Emerald Isle allowed me the opportunity to travel over most of Europe. At the age of 17 I immigrated to the United Kingdom where I attended the University of Dundee from 1997-2001. In 2001 I graduated with a Master of Arts in English Literature specializing in Shakespeare and Middle English. While at University I became certified as an ESL teacher and taught students from all over the world. The experiences I had as an ESL teacher led me to believe that the Education field was where I was destined to be. After my graduation I returned to Ireland and attended University College Cork where I graduated in 2002 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education specializing in English and Civics.
After one year of teaching in Ireland I immigrated to South Korea where I taught as an ESL teacher in a small town called Suji. I lived and taught there for fifteen months before moving into centra Seoul for two more years. During those two years I taught as a non-tenure Professor of English in Soongsil University teaching freshman English. Travel is one of my passions and while living in Asia we have the opportunity to travel to many countries throughout South East Asia including Japan, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore
We PCS'd to Fort Bragg in the summer of 2006 and I began teaching again in North Carolina in 2007. I taught middle school language arts for five years before becoming an Academic Coach at Hawk Eye Elementary School. With over 15 years teaching both as a volunteer and as a professional I have enjoyed it thoroughly and cannot imagine working in any other area. I completed my graduate degree in Education in 2008 and am working toward beginning my Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction this spring.
