About Mrs. Kathy Flatt
I am a native Texan and have lived in Coppell since 1979 when Coppell boasted a population of only 2,000 residents. My husband and I have two children. Our daughter graduated from Texas A&M University and has her master's degree from the University of Missouri in journalism. She now lives in Washington state and is working for Northwest Public Radio researching and reporting about energy and the environment. Our son graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. and is working in the metroplex for Corning Cable Systems as a Mechanical Engineer.
My Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree is from Stephen F. Austin State University with certifications in Music Education and Health and Physical Education. I began my teaching career in Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District as a Physical Education teacher. After two years, I attended the University of North Texas to receive classrooom certification and then taught in both second and fifth grades for the next seven years. After that, I became a stay at home mom for eight years and returned to teaching in the Coppell Independent School District at Pinkerton Elementary and then Denton Creek Elementary. I love to teach 5th grade and enjoy providing Denton Creek's Friday Live Program for our 5th Graders.
My job as a classroom teacher is to provide a safe environment that promotes learning and allows students to develop to their highest potential. I feel it is important to help students understand how to acquire knowledge, so that they become life-long learners and productive citizens. I want my students to wake up each day excited about coming to school to learn and excited to be with their classmates and friends!
