This is Mrs. Stone's sixth year at Durant High School. Prior to coming to Durant, Mrs. Stone spent one year teaching high school band at Midland High School in Wyoming, IA and four years at Drexler Middle School in Farley, IA. At Durant, she is responsible for the Wildcat Jazz, Pep and Concert Bands. In addition to music responsibilities, Mrs. Stone also supervises two study halls, co-teaches 6-8th band and is a freshman advisor. Mrs. Stone grew up north of Walcott, but she graduated from Davenport West. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of Northern Iowa. Her main instrument is the trumpet, but Mrs. Stone enjoys playing all of the instruments with the students in lessons. At Durant, Mrs. Stone is a lead mentor and on the Building Leadership Team. She is a member of the Iowa Bandmaster's Association, SouthEast Iowa Bandmaster's Association, and the Durant Education Association. Mrs. Stone is active as a adjucator at music festivals in the area and plays trumpet in the Tri-County Community Band in the summer. In her spare time, Mrs. Stone enjoys running/walking, reading, riding her bike, spending time with her children, Alaina and Ian, as well as her husband, Kenny. Together, they enjoy swimming, riding bikes, playing puzzles, reading books and watching movies.
