About Ms. Lisa Brown

I am originally from Sacramento, California. I went to Chico State and was a member of ITC, an accelerated teacher’s program. I received my degree in Liberal Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential while at Chico State. After college I moved to San Bruno and taught at San Bruno Unified School District for two years and taught 5th and 6th grade. In 2010 I made the move to Sonoma County for the opportunity to teach 6th grade at Alexander Valley School. I currently live in Santa Rosa.
In my free time I love to read, especially historical fiction. I also enjoy reading books that my students are reading. I am always up for good suggestion of books to read, especially if I have a student to talk about it with. I love pets, especially dogs, but I live in an apartment and can’t have one! My favorite food is pizza (After working in three pizza places I know my pizza!) I played soccer for 12 years but my favorite sport to watch is baseball, Giants baseball that is. I have decided to go back to school and as of Fall 2011 I am a Masters student at Sonoma State. I will be getting my Masters in Curriculum, Learning, and Teaching with an Educational Technology emphasis. I will be learning new and engaging ways to teach my students, especially in the area of technology.
My favorite thing to teach in 6th grade is Ancient Civilizations social studies. I am also passionate about math. I started to struggle in math in middle school and became one of those students to said, “I hate math, I’m just not good at it.” After going to college and actually learning the WHY behind math, the light bulb went on for me. Now I love to help students turn on that light bulb and enjoy math as much as I do now.
I love hearing from parents and students-present, past and even future! If you have any more questions please e-mail me at Lbrown@alexandervalleyusd.org.
